Paladin StrongHold

Am I right in thinking the only place to store anything is in a sack or barrel in the stable area? I thought in the old BG:2 there was a room where there were beds and trunks at the foot of each bed.

I don't recall that bunkroom arrangement to which you refer.

But anyway, you should have three containers in the stable area, three more in the room to the left of the front entrance (get in via the kitchen), plus the surface of the Prelate's desk(!), so seven containers altogether. (If you were playing a Cleric of Talos, you'd envy a Paladin for having so many as seven containers!)

However, note that just because you've acquired a Stronghold, there's no obligation to store your stash there. Indeed in some cases (such as a Ranger whose Stronghold is at the far side of the map from the city!) it'd be absurdly inconvenient to base yourself at your Stronghold. You can just "continue as normal" - which usually seems to mean storing your stash in the Copper Coronet!
