Default Non human monk animations

when I create k_mn_x files for nonhuman monks, it seems that the engine assigns the human male fighter for the animation of a created nonhuman monk.
This is not an insurmountable problem as it is possible to assign new animations via clab. However, when you do this, and assign, say, thief animations to a nonhuman monk, the character will use their two-handed animations when making unarmed attacks.
I am not sure how this could be resolved--is it possible to make nonhuman monks reference human monk animations, which work perfectly?--would that work?--but I would be super thrilled if this could be addressed if it is not too much trouble.
I can upload my files if that would help.
Thanks
Edit: I assume, though I haven't tried it, is that assigning monk animations to non human monks using my method might work out more or less. However, this would still leave shorties out of the race
