Baulders Gate II and 1 differences.

I purchased baulders gate 2 on the app store and have played it to its entirety. I am considering buying the original one. What are the Major Things that will be different. What major thing in the sequel arent in the first one? Does it have good things that they left out in the sequel?

The major differences are 1. the difference in the way you explore the world. The first game has many optional open areas you can go to at any point in the story. Where as the second one has much less of this. The first one is less spell heavy/spell dependent. Although, if played that way, spells can still be a major factor in the first game. But you are definitely just as powerful if not more so with all melee and ranged attacks. First game is easily doable without a mage, where as the second one is much harder with one or two arcane casters. Be prepared to die a lot, especially early game, where as a level one you can die by a critical hit from a gibberling.

You start at lvl 1 and go up to lvl 8-9 at the end of the game. This is the biggest difference in gameplay. You will have little hp, less spells, and worse chances to hit/save vs stuff. This may make the game seem harder but then again you won't get to face liches/beholders/dragons in the first game.

Exploration is more important in bg1, there are large, open wilderness areas filled with many little random encounters/quests/treasures. Some love it more than bg2. Dungeons are worse thsn bg2 IMHO, very narrow and deadly corridors filled with traps and monsters:when compared to bg2's vast and complex dungeons.

Npcs are more silent, they don't have many interjections and personal quests like bg2. They are still memorable and fun, though.

Overall you need to experience the beginning of the journey if you enjoyed bg2. Then take a character from bg1 all the way up to ToB for the complete experience. And then start modding your game for the ultimate challenge and fun. :-)

There's also less magical weapons and cool gear. Coming across even a +2 weapon can be quite the occasion.
