Travel Times

So, this is pretty top-of-the-doesn't-matter-list, but I'm wondering if the travel times are correct. For example, Dragon's Eye is 72 hours from Kuldahar, but the game specifically mentions it as being a day's journey away. If I recall correctly, this isn't a new problem. I think I remember travel times being much shorter when the game first came out, and lengthening dramatically sometime after that (maybe when HoW came out?), to something around the times I'm seeing in the EE. Does anyone else remember this, and if so, can anyone explain it? I, for one, am somewhat confused.
