Where is the override? (or why doesn't it work?)

I think some of the croppings made to the smaller portraits in IWD are rather strange. Therefore I'm used to extracting the larger files and redoing the cropping myself. However, I can't seem to make that work with IWD:EE. Am I missing something? Can't the ingame portraits be overridden anymore? Is there a new place where the override folder should be placed? This procedure works fine for BG1/2:EE and used to work for IWD as well...
