Laggy framerate BGEE OSX

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
I've having problems with consistency of the framerate and game speed, I have fps set to 60 but at times (Outdoors in Candlekeep and other large maps) it doesn't play smoothly and slows down closer to 20-30fps, but as soon as I walk into a building it speeds up to 60 fps and plays really smoothly even during combat.

Help? Any ideas?

I'm on a iMac running Yosemite, had the exact same thing on Mountain Lion 18 months ago running BGEE 1.1, I also run bootcamp, on the Windows side it runs fine.
