Importing characters on Mac

On my Mac, I can't seem to export my BBEE1 character. I have a "characters" folder, but none of my character exports turn up there, despite what seems to be a successful "export" when I execute the action from the game. Furthermore, I purchased BGEE2 and for the life of me I can't find any folder for the app which I could drop characters from BGEE1 into. I've read that you have to start BGEE2 and save a game for the app to crete a folder, but that doesn't seem to work. Why so hard to import characters from one game to next???
