Mage / Cleric strategy

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
So my mage is approaching level 8, and has the stats to multi to cleric... ill be honest, i never have multiclassed any of my chars before, in any of my playthrus for whatever the reason i chose never to...

my questions: is it worth multiclassing her into a mage / cleric soon, or when she reaches her level cap - which i believe is soon... how detrimental would it be to do it at this stage? playing thru original version of the game if that makes any difference...

    wow, dumb moment.. sorry, i just read the warning in game on how it works... i think i missed some of that explanation last time i read it... i answered my own question, but thanks lol

    :) Took me a very long time to understand how dual classing works so good work on the speedy pick up
