Starting level in BG2

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
So I decided to grab BG2 and start a new game, to find I started off with a level 18 Fighter I pre-generated. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the entry level should be quite a bit lower, given I ended the first game at level 8.

    There are three choices when you load up the game.

    Black Pits 2 (this is a combat simulator that by in large doesn't have any connections to the main game)

    Shadows of Amn (this is the continuation of the saga from Baldur's Gate 1/Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition)

    Throne of Bhaal (this is the continuation of the saga from Shadows of Amn).

    From the sounds of things you picked Throne of Bhaal. What you want to pick instead is Shadows of Amn.

    Start from shadows of amn, when you finish it you will automatically continue on to Throne of Bhaal, the final chapters of the saga.
