Unable to Play Multiplayer

I opened up Baldur's Gate today to play with a friend and I've encountered a problem, when I go to multiplayer instead of a nice long list of games going on I get a blank list that allows me to only create a new game and go to advanced. I also cannot create a game because the games I make cannot be found by the other person.

Is this a computer issue, internet, or what?
