Quick Foebane question

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
IIRC, in the original ToB release, Foebane would use Larloch's Minor Drain as described, but the hitpoints that were supposed to be absorbed by the user would be blocked by magic resistance. Has this been addressed? Or was it intentional?
