#15962 - Kivan should not have a 1st-level spell slot at level 4 and level 6

1. Start a new game.
2. C:CreateCreature("kivan4").
3. C:CreateCreature("kivan6").
4. Ctrl-Q to add both Kivans to the party.
5. Open his priest spell book.

Observed: Kivan has one 1st-level spell slot available.

Expected: Kivan should not have any spell slots until he is level 8.

Rangers only receive their first spell slot at level 8, when they start gaining access to Druid spells.

The bug is due to a wrong number of 1st-level priest spell slots in the creature files KIVAN4.cre and KIVAN6.cre.

    it might be a result of back-porting some of the IWD:EE changes, which do give rangers spells at lvl 4.

    Interesting, but it's not the reason. The bug with Kivan exists even in the original BG1/TotSC, so this is an old oversight that hasn't been fixed for 16 years.

    Is it a bug, or a feature? Like the special abilities some NPCs get, or Kagain's 20 Con for regeneration, or Coran's 20 Dex? Most NPCs have something a little special, this could be Kivan's contribution?

    Given that he has no spells to memorize, I'd say it's a bug.

    It cannot be a feature because spell slots are controlled by MXSPLxyz.2da, so once you level him up, Kivan loses the erroneous spell slot and doesn't even retain it. It is a simple bug, nothing more. Just an oversight in Kivan's creature files that should have been fixed long ago.
