Note: In BG2 they don't let you dual-class to a specialist mage, instead you can start as a kit for a bunch of classes. So if you wanted to it only worked in pre-EE BG1.

pplr is correct about it being possible to dual class into a specialist mage in the original BG1.

I want to say I appreciate this somewhat partial revival of the franchise. I don't regret spending money to support this endeavor... even if it was somewhat disappointing.

First off the quality of the new material is rather eh. Neera is probably the best done and the whole story line left me wanting to slap someone. Hexxat... I don't know. This might be cool. It was too buggy... I kept working around the bugs just to see it but eventually that wasn't enough. From what I saw it was disappointing. It sort of seems like someone ripped off the valen mod but I didn't get too far into it. Overall the new content except the monk which I have not played (because I can't stomach the class):

I can agree with this assessment, completely. Neera was fun and I liked her storyline and her romance. Hexxat was interesting but the bugs and the plot design ruined it for me. The EE, imo, lacks something many mods also lack: player guidance. I really don't want to search all areas and click everyrthing just to solve a problem. If some point & click is necessary then there should be a clear message for the player. Dragomir's tomb was horrible in this regard. I still liked Hexxat as a character. Rasaad and Dorn, though... Dorn might my personal hate character, but Rasaad's pseudo-philosophical whinery and the "he doesn't know how to live and takes revenge" stuff gets old rather fast.
