Anyway, ultimately I left Aerie behind and this afternoon I defeated Irenicus with both Keldorn and Anomen, along with Mazzy, Imoen and Rasaad.
While Anomen is certainly a jerk, I'm nevertheless fond of him and consider him one of the most interesting characters in the game. Maybe he's a butthead, but he's my butthead, you know? So I'm happy to have him along. (Mind you, I don't mind Aerie. Although I do hate her romance.)
I was worried about only having one mage right up until I got hold of Casomyr and remembered that I don't actually need to worry about having spells to remove other spells. If a magically inclined opponent isn't dead before they can buff, they will be soon after. The final fight of SOA was embarrassingly easy.
