Exporting and final saves

Is exporting a character after the final fight in BG:EE and importing that character file into BG2:EE functionally identical to importing from the final save created? Or does the save game keep other variables?

I remember reading somewhere on here about "overflow" xp beyond the 161k cap transferring with one of the methods but I can't seem to find that now.

    I've kept my exp overflow when I've loaded a final save but I've never tried importing so I don't know about that method. There's also supposed to be transferable variables now eg a weapon and I'm not sure this works with both methods
