iPhone import BG 1 EE character to BG 2 EE

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I have followed the documentation I could find: load a non Final Game, press Export - I then have the option to create a new export name or overwrite an existing one (I have no option here as to where). I have gone through this but nothing appears in BG2 - I seem to remember doing something similar on the iPad - except BG2 would automatically start the import process when you exported from BG 1 - am I missing anything?
