Does anybody know the penalties for using bows in close combat?

Do the same penalties apply to all ranged weapons?

The bow-wielding character gets -8 to hit while the melee attackers get +4 to hit and damage against them.

This applies to all ranged weapons.

Using a ranged weapon in close combat gives you a penalty to AC, making you easier to get hit. If a character is using a ranged weapon face to face with a weapon, have him/her switch to a melee weapon or try disengaging to avoid getting hurt much quicker.
