monster party.

I recall, when I played Temple of Elemental Evil, I went back and modded it so I could play as the villain.
she was some sort of demigod plant... thing. It was a blast.
what problems would folks foresee with having a party of monster types to play IWDee with?
I was thinking... beholder instead of sorceror, minotaur instead of barbarian, spectral knight instead of cavalier, etc.
obviously something like a beholder couldn't use weapons... but I could give it the ability to polymorph.
there are obvious things that would need to change, like swapping empty hands that could hold weapons for the scripted weapons most monsters get, adding level tables, etc. probably easiest to mod the animation and abilities for a standard player class (so it looks and behaves like a beholder, but could gain levels and learn new spells, etc)
but are there unobvious problems people can think of?

I played BG and Black Pits with various "monsters" and unforseen issues are: if you are too big, you can't go through non-map travelling doors (i.e. between rooms) and have to teleport via console. Some creatures are notably slower or faster than others, so you have to play a lot with settings to get the party at a walking speed that leaves no-one behind half a map. For example, mummies are damn slow and will remain so even if you only use a mummy sprite and edit the rest from a legal race/class.
To have a beholder fully unarmed, you'd do best with a monk as base class to edit, so the weaponless style counts as eye attacks. Then add sorcerer abilities (I actually have a beholder based theory kit somewhere, that mimics beholder abilities with spells, though from the BG spell list). An alternative is actual sorcerer with darts as main weapon. They are tiny and won't be handheld out of combat.
