Edwin question

In the original Baldur's gate, once you refused to kill dynaheir, he would disappear and returned back on the bridge on nashkel , to battle.
Was that taken out because of him turning up in bg2 or some other reason?

I don't think anyone here has a clear answer to that... i always waited to talk to Edwin AFTER rescuing Dynaheir from Gnolls.

I'll look into it as much as I can. He definitely has dialogue for the encounter.

    Without dynaheir in party

"I warned you that I would return, and now it is time for you to face my wrath! I see you no longer have the witch with you. Well, no matter! You will die for your association with her!"

    With dynaheir in party.

Fools! I foretold that I would return! Now I shall take your lives for the glory of Thay, and dispatch whatever paltry goals you and your witch collaborator have!

I played through the encounter in the original game (grabbing edwin, getting dynaheir, siding with dynaheir and returning to nashkel) and did a search through all BCS (Scripts) and DLG (dialogues) game files for EdwinAbandoned, which is the variable involved with the above quotes. Nothing. Unfinished Business probably fixes the encounter.

When I talked to him, in Nashkell, with Dynaheir in the party, he said something about not knowing what I've done, before bailing. I usually ignore him in games, so I didn't know what to expect.

Either UB or BG1 NPC Project (afaik) handles this through putting Edwin with the group of hostile red wizards at the platform/altar in that easternmost area. It also utilizes a dialogue like what @elminster posted before he attacks.

The piece elminster found is the way it used to go in Baldur's gate. I think but not sure, that it broke with tales of the sword coast expansion, or got changed then

Has the enhanced edition been patched to address this? The wiki page notes that Edwin should return, but I haven't seen any real confirmation if the scripts are working properly or not for the enhanced edition. I have a save where I sided with Dynaheir and had Edwin make his appropriate comments and leave the party. I've yet to see him return, though, but I see two global variables in this save that look to be related (edwinabandoned and edwinreturn). It'd be nice to hear the the enhanced edition does fix bugged scripts, such as this one. The wiki page notes that he should return in the enhanced edition in a random wilderness area.

It's disabled. You can enable it easy enough using NearInfinity, but it's kinda buggy.

Edwin and the four Red Wizards from Spider Wood ambush you from all sides. Edwin is supposed to insult you and turn hostile, but he doesn't say the correct dialog, he just remains neutral and acts like you just booted him from your party. You can even rehire him on the spot and use him to kill the other Red Wizards...

If it was working, the requirements would be...

-Kick Edwin when you find Dynaheir.

    -Wait 10 days.

    -Be level 4+

-Don't kill the Red Wizards in Spider Wood.

If you want to look at the ambush, you need to open the random encounter BCS files and find and remove the False() line from each file. You can find the correct files with NearInfinity by using Search > Text Search > BCS and look for EdwinReturn.
