What do the blue white and pink for the spell icons indicate?

Roughly, red (pink?) is for offensive spells, blue is for defensive spells, and white is for everything else.

... is it bad that I never realized this before? I mean, thinking about it, it basically fits, but I don't think I've ever consciously recognized the colors as anything but random.

I think it only occurred to me after I started playing IWDEE and noticed that the icons for summoning spells are all green.

Like @joluv said, White is very broad:more like utility like dispel/remove, triggers and contingencies, diviniations, offensive buffs (strength, haste) and high lvl illusions that can serve any purpose (mislead, project image, simulacrum)

Blues are strictly defensive buffs and protections. Reds are offensive, mainly damaging or debuff spells.

I like how iwd makes summon icons green, I copied those icons into my bg2 game as well.
