NPCs can disappear when moving between areas

NPCs can disappear when moving between areas if you leave while they are in transition but before they appear.
This can be duplicated with Firebead Elvenhair by attacking him and then moving upstairs. He will then follow you up and down the stairs but it is possible for him to sometimes "disappear" between the transition and never reappear.
It's a race condition so it won't happen every time but it is duplicable if you switch between the upstairs and downstairs enough times.
