Alteranate Character Avatars and Voice kit transference?

How does one go about uploading a custom character Avatar for a main character? Played with a fellow player in multi and somehow he managed to have the Avatar of "The Diseased One" for his Mage. That and how are voice kits properly transferedfrom BGEE to BGIIEE?
