Blade Build Stats

What stats are recommended at minimum for a decent Blade build? I played as a Blade through the entire BG EE series, and found that the tomes proved a godsend. IIRC, there are no such goodies in Icewind Dale, constricting what's feasible to roll. Right now, I have a 93 roll saved, with 18 Str/18 Dex/16 Con/16 Int/10 Wis/15 Cha. Is this good enough, or should I try for something higher/move some points around? I don't want to use EEKeeper to artificially alter my stats.

If this is about your question in the other topic.

Blades only need 14 INT for spells. Or 15 if you don't want to save reload when scribing spells, since you can just drink a potion of Genius for 19 INT for perfect scribing. Or just change the difficulty to Easy for scribing, so again back to 14.

18 INT will still have a chance at failing to scribe spells, so you're still saving and reloading with that much INT

Yeah, I noticed the last response was from the second week of May, so I thought I'd try a thread. Thanks for the response! Does INT no longer impact spells per level?

Still does, but there's only a handful of useful spells per level.

Even with the minimum amout of INT, you're still going to have more than enough space in the spellbook for a spell that would actually be useful. Although you'll need to drink Potions of Genius to scribe higher level spells.

Ah, okay. Do I need to boost Wis/Cha above what I have? I know Wis really only impacts lore, and "low" Charisma can be mitigated by Friends, right?

    Yes.

Also if you're using your Blade as your buying character, IIRC you get biggest discount with at least 20 Charisma.

Although there's an item that has a Charisma bonus later on. But it really shouldn't matter, the game gives you so much gold, you won't really need the discount.

I think you'll find that spells are 15% harder to learn so you only get perfect scribing if you're a specialist Mage in that one school. I can't remember the exact mechanics but it's not as simple as BG anyway.

93 roll is fine, don't need wisdom for anything unless you want to use that one weird bard only item so drop it a couple of points and boost int to 18 to have an easier time with scrolls and keep everything else the same.

The important thing for your bard is to pick up one of the +1 strength items. There's a couple around though one of them is non-good only though you might want to wear glimmering bands which would conflict with that so just decide on what items and figure out where they are and make sure you get them (especially the +1 strength item). Other than that you might want to jump into the expansion early to pick up the Longswords of Action or plan on other weapons.

I've played a blade in IWDee and had a really good time. I think the key is to play it in a smaller 3-4 character party to give him a chance to shine.

Use magic to buff strength until you find an item to set it high enough... if you always buffed for str, you can leave str lower with no drawbacks. I'd still want that 18 to make early game easier maybe.

Most strength items give a straight +1 so you'd want 18 base to be pushed to 19 with one item.

Why waste a buff on STR when a Bard only needs 15 INT at best?
