Soloing as a (weak) thief ...

icebladeiceblade Member Posts: 19
Hi.

I'm thinking of trying to solo bgee as a thief without uberstats, like multiple 16s, 17s, 18s.
Maybe one 14 or 15 and the rest 12, 10 or lower. Hopefully without reloading too much. ;)

Do you think this is possible? The Naskell Mines end fight already looks like a big Problem to me.

You're not going to last too long as a single class thief with poor stats, IMO. If you want a challenge to go for then by all means, it would definitely be interesting to see the results if someone tried it. But soloing as a single class thief means you'll be really reliant on potions and wands to help you out in some situations, and no access to debuffing magic which is critical for tougher enemies. You also probably won't have much carrying weight without a decent strength score meaning that trying to sell loot to get you extra money may be problematic.

And as an extra downside, with such low stat scores you won't have the option to dual class if that were something you might want to try later. If going just as a thief though then that doesn't really matter at all though. Any situation where your character could get surrounded or pelted with arrows would probably give you a tough time.

I thought with the two magic items to get STR 18 and dex 18 (19?) later it wouldn't be too hard. I don't recall those being hard to get, but the last time I played BG was a few years ago.

Maybe I will have some sort of "first play" experience since I don't recall anymore where the good things are...

I don't plan to dual or multi.

It's possible but you will have to rely a lot on items and traps.

I have always felt that stats are very overrated, esp. by the mid-to-high character levels. High stats are nice to have and make certain things more convenient, but they won't make or break a run. You won't notice much of a difference, having mediocre stats.

It's not too difficult. Just realise that you'll have a limited amount of strategies to overcome encounters compared to another character that might be able to employ a wider variety of interesting and fun tactics.

    Maybe consider an illusionist/thief instead?
