Need Help With Modding

Hello, I am looking into possibly getting into modding. I want to work as a game Programmer, but I haven't taken any college classes for it yet, but plan to soon, and want to know what programs I am supposed to use to mod BGEE, BG2EE, and IWDEE. I kind of want to start with a item mod, and slowly work my way up to companions and full adventures. Thanks.

You should read code from other mods, that helps and use the weidu readme and iesdp:

Gibberlings3 and Spellhold Studios and Pocket Plane (all ,net) have semi-active folks who can help, and extensive tutorials on i.e. modding. We aren't all online multiple times a day like we used to be, but we are still poking about - and ever releasing/creating mods

Thank you. I really just want to see how good I am at modding, if its fun, and if it is something I can see myself doing as a career, before I spend money to take college classes for it. My plan is to start small, by making a weapon or armor first, and then, if I had fun with that, going on to more challenging stuff, like companions, NPCs and whole other Campaigns.
