Monk with Thief or Fighter/Thief for Semi-Solo run?

I really want to play a monk solo run, but there is so much stuff that needs to be stolen and traps that need to be disarmed.
Would it be better to use a no trap no lock mod and just do a monk solo, take a thief with me, or dual class a fighter/thief? Basically, which levels faster and can still open locks and disarm traps?
I've read that monks are really nice and I like the idea of punching my enemies to death wearing nothing but a bath robe. I ran to the end of the starter dungeon with a Solo monk but only gained one level due to not being able to disarm traps and open locks for exp. My F/M/T gained one to two level on each class in the same distance. I'm wondering how I'd do with a Monk and a Thief team. I'm also wondering how crazy a F/T would be. I didn't care much for the M part of the Multiclass and figured a Dual Class would do better.

1. You can solo any class in this game without mods to remove locks or traps. That is not a problem.
2. In the short term, a dual class will lag behind a pure thief. In the long run there is no or little difference. A multi will always lag behind, but it will still have enough skill points for everything.
3. If you are looking for suggestions, I would pair the monk with mage/thief dual or multi.
If you do go solo I'd recommend making sure that you have two uses of DUHM bhaalspawn power to boost your strength to open locks. If you solo bg1 first (not hard as monk AC stacks with potion AC) then you can have 19 base strength which helps a lot.
If you did want a duo team then go with whatever you feel like, maybe a pure kitted thief just for something different.
On another note, I wouldn't go with a pure thief. You'll get plenty of XP, and a F/T can utilize that much more effectively. On a duo-run, lagging behind is a non-issue and it probably won't happen.
F/M/T is the ultimate solo class, but F/T is fine too, mostly because then you can be a Half-Orc or a Dwarf for all these nice race bonuses.
(That said, I approve of the modifications that the MorrowGate mod does for monks.)
