I saw this article on MaximumPC. Is there a way to do this thru BeamDog.com? I purchased directly from BeamDog.com

I only play BGEE 1 & 2 (DragonSpear eventually)... and Star Citizen which I also directly download from their site. So I have ZERO interest in creating a Steam account.

With modern PC games tallying up download sizes of 20GB (and even soaring up to GTA V's massive 70GB), sometimes it's better to back up the game to an external drive rather than slog through the long download again. If you're using Steam, there are two methods you can use to back up your games to another drive and restore them later, and thus avoid the hassle of a re-download.

To back up your Beamdog games, just make a copy of the program folder (Windows BG:EE's folder is named 00766; the other games/platforms have different numbers) and a copy of the Documents\[game name] folder, where your saves are stored.

Pretty much what @Jalily said. To back up a game all you really need to do is copy the entire game folder and paste it somewhere else like on backup storage or even just a dedicated folder somewhere on your desktop for your DRM free games you back up. Very useful if you want to try installing some mods but don't want to feel like needing to uninstall then reinstall if something doesn't work or isn't to your liking. The Documents folder @Jalily mentioned is for things like saved games or exported characters and can be backed up too, though you can uninstall your game without those files being affected. I even switched from using the direct Beamdog version to the GOG version and the character/save files still worked just fine.

If you plan on using mods, just know that saved games that were started and played without the mods may not be too compatible with continuing while the mods are installed, and/or some changes may not take effect properly. With the GOG version which is what I personally prefer, the installer itself is DRM free and can be backed up without having to copy and paste all the game's files.
