Why are umberhulks green?

...and not, say, Umber?
Why do invisible stalkers cast a shadow?
Why are the skeleton warriors in BG2 so massive? Whats sort of creature makes skeletons that huge?
Why do mindflayers hang around with umberhulks so often?
What is the difference between a werewolf and a wolfwere?

Consider this a thread where you can post about all the little questions that bug you in baldurs gate and where (hopefully) someone can answer them

My inner pedant says: why do the inhabitants of the underdark generally have dark skin? Logic dictates that living underground breeds a lack of pigment, which would also explain their sensitivity to sunlight...

Edit: Oh, and a wolfwere is the offspring of a werewolf and a natural wolf.

I understand wolfwere's as a reversal to werefolves. Instead of humans, who turns wolves, they're wolves who turns humans.

    @ZelgadisGW
Yep, that's also correct, I believe.

    1. Umber hulks are green because they're jealous of your charisma.
    2. Invisible stalkers are invisible but their physical body is present just enough to cast shadows.
    3. Bones are like glass, they're solid but in a semi liquid state. Over much time they slowly change form and so bones can be made much longer.
    4. Best friends man.
    5. A wolfwere is what a werewolf who has never seen one of his own kind before says. "WOLF, WHERE?"

    Did I pass my test?

    1. They are Umber however one of the Art Devs had his monitor misconfigured.
    2. invisible Stalkers do not perfectly allow all wavelengths of light to pass through
    3. Gnolls
    4. They enjoy Pinochle
    5. One starts as a Human and changed to wolf and the other Started as a Wolf and Changed to Man.

    Glad I could help.

Aye, It`s from the old saxon word Wer, meaning Man. Werewolf was originaly a man, Wolfwere was originaly a wolf.

Pinochle, @immagikman? I don't know. I would think mind flayers would get frustrated playing with an umber hulk who, every hand, confuses your partner about what trump is.

Well you see the Mind Flayers team up with Umberhulks...one MF and one UH per team...it makes the whole game much more exciting.

Try "why do the skeleton warriors in BG2 look totally friggin' lame?" They were badass in BG1; scary as hell, formidable opponents. Then in BG2 it was like ... hey we have this art from Icewind Dale, let's use it. ...And that art doesn't have any ranged weapon animations, so they won't have bows anymore (which is what made them actually scary). Oopsie. They go from being actually scary and interesting to just lame.

@Knettgummi: Yes that's why I've never understood why anuses are dark.

@Quartz Ah damn, the bastards from the Thieve's Maze and the lumbering Icewindead are the same creatures? Boy, I'd have never noticed that. They sure messed them up.
