Recovering game progress on ios

I am deep into BG ii on my iPad Air, but the game is massive and I need more space. Is there any way to back up my progress and recover it later if I delete the app?

I'm not an iPad user, but you can transfer your saves to a PC/Mac with iFunBox before uninstalling BG, than transfer back when you re-install the game on the iPad.

Don't think iFunbox works anymore.

For instance, you can only add portraits to iPad now by emailing them to yourself, then choosing to open them with the app.
