Save Game crash and delete?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I was playing multiplayer with my friend and when I went to save it the game terminated the multiplayer session and then deleted our save game. Whats going on?

    What point in the game were you trying to save at? (sounds like just a random save crash but knowing this might help create a repo case for it.)
