Shadowdancer kit

The Shadowdancer kit implies that the SD can cast spells or at least use magic items. I quote, "The caster cannot attack or cast spells while in the Shadow Plane", unquote. However, that does not seem to be true playing IWDEE. My SD can't use spell scrolls or wands. Will she eventually get the "use any item" skill/ability? What's going on?

In a related question, in vanilla IWD I don't believe you can Dual TO a kit, only FROM a kit. Is that still true in IWDEE?

    Hello!
Thieves cannot cast spells since they're not a spellcaster class. So, you can't use Mage/Priest scrolls nor wands reserved for those classes (but you can use wands of missiles/sleep for example).
There are no HLA or kits (only Specialist Mages) in IWD.
Yes, you can only dual to a kit. So, you can start as a SD and dual to a Mage. You would then be able to cast spells from book or scrolls.

You can try to dual class a Shadow dancer-----> mage, I havent tried it but tell me how it goes...

Personally, I would dual class SD to fighter, better back-stab and crippling strikes hit percentage. Plus, with hide in plain sight ability, you can do continuous back-stabs and hide in shadows, even though your being seen.

I did just that, shadow dancer to fighter. It was an amazing run. Combining maxed out shadow dancer backstab with fighter levels was deadly.

Though I do wonder if IWD will give you enough xp to make that worthwhile...that is unless you turn the difficulty up.

There's a 8M xp cap in IWDEE, and lots of random encounters, at least when attempting to sleep on certain dungeons. Should be no problem getting a high enough level of SD before dualing to Fighter.

Yeah with the ability to just hide anytime even in combat is awesome.... If you ever try a SD dual classes to mage, tell me how it goes....XD
