Difficulty Slider Not Affecting HP Rolls?

So here's my situation. I'm playing Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition on Steam. I've been playing with Core Rules (middle difficulty slider setting), intending to adjust the slider to the right for maximized hp rolls before leveling up. Problem is, that slider isn't affecting those rolls at all. I've just leveled Jaheira for the first time, and I had to reload the game dozens of times before I got a 12 hp level-up. The setting of the difficulty slider made no difference to how many hp I got - the only thing that worked was reloading (and reloading, and reloading) until I happened to roll a total of 12.

Do I need to set the slider to Normal or Easy before she earns the XP which ALLOWS her to level up, or something? I really hope that is not the case; that'd be a little silly.

That mod is easy to install, and has a component that lets your characters gain max HP on level up. So you don't have to move the slide every time you level up, if you're playing on computer, that is.

It looks like that's a mod for Baldur's Gate II, which I don't (yet) own. In any case, I understand that there are mods for this sort of thing, though I was trying to avoid any extraneous downloads. I don't mind messing with the slider, I'm just confused as to why the slider isn't seeming to DO anything to affect my hp rolls (as it claims to do in the description).

Just to clarify: I am playing Baldur's Gate: EE, NOT the sequel.

    BG2 tweaks work for Baldur's Gate (BG:EE), Baldur's Gate 2 (BG2:EE) and Icewind Dale (IWD:EE).

When you install the game, it will ask you about every component. So if you want to you can install max HP on level up and leave the others. I couldn't play without that mod, some of the components are worth gold. It doesn't make major changes to the game, it just changes small gameplay things.

Some of the components that I install :

    Remove Helmet Animations
    Viconia Skin Color Change
    Icewind Dale Casting Graphics (Andyr)
    Force All Dialogue to Pause
Higher HP on Level Up <- This is the one that gives you max HP.
Change Jaheira to Neutral Good Alignment

That all sounds useful, but all I really want is to use the slider to set hp to max before leveling - I'd like to avoid extraneous downloads.

Does anyone know why my slider is NOT setting hp to maximum on Normal and Easy settings? Again, I'm playing on Classic and adjusting the slider to Easy just before selecting "Level Up" from the character menu. When I do, my hp rolls remain randomized.

@FinneousPJ has the right of it, @AbandonedArts.

Move the slider to the LEFT after getting enough XP to level up, and then you'll get maximum HP every time. (Don't forget to move it back to the centre after the levelling process!)

Moving the slider to the right takes you to Hard and then Insane difficulty, and this doesn't affect your HP roll because Core, Hard and Insane all use the same dice-rolling rule for HP on levelling, unlike Normal and Easy which both give maximum HP each time.
