Best way to run multiple installs?

Hey all, I was wondering the best way to run multiple steam copies of BG2EE, specifically unmodded and modded. One for getting back to developing my own mods and the other for playing other mods.

Thanks for any help.

NB I've seen a few methods via search I was wondering on the current and most used method, also if this is not possible with steam, is it possible by buying BGEE from another source and running both installs.
