I will try to search it amongst game files resources, as you suggest. First Edition of BG1 in Poland was published in 1999 year (The cardboard box was embellished with this portrait)
I had a look at all the images in BG1 using NearInfinity and couldn't see anything like the portrait.
Best bet might be if someone has a Collectors Edition or their Original Discs and see if there is anything on the Discs that isn't installed as part of the game.
I'm pretty sure these are from one of the collector's edition cd's that has a bunch of concept art on the cd itself. I found them in an old ftp modding site I just got access to again today after several years (yay for modders keeping everything!)
I have own bg2 collector's edition cd's and there aren't any, never seen before, portraits. Just old, all well known concept arts, promotional graphics and so on.

I was busy with research tonight but you will all have more nice artwork tomorrow.
@Rabain I can use the dragon but the Ellesime art comes with GOG.com BGII unfortunately. Well, I'm beginning to wonder if I should worry about avoiding GOG artwork here. I mean that picture is off a CD and you can't stop people from using it. I'll restore the dragon and put it up.
Moon is a genius finding that portrait, I'll put it up too (but it doesn't need any work I reckon). Anyone who supplies artwork for this post will recieve credit as the one who gave it.
Remember, this is a community thread folks. You're free to participate as much as you want.
EDIT: The portrait needs tiny work, lots of JPG marks on it. I think Moon has a good scanner because it's great quality. Let us know exactly where you found it and hopefully the other.
Added JON IRENICUS WALLPAPER and properly organized the thread to show BG1 and BGII art in order by time.
@Parys If you can, scan the Eldoth portrait again because the copy of it from the other thread is cut off a little. Plus I think Minsc is different on the box too so please do scan him. I'll fix up the Edwin portrait and put it up, with credit to you, @Rabain@Sylvus_Moonbrow for making this all possible.
I would never of had so much info about these pre-game portraits without you guys. This is a great discovery. I'll fix the dragon tonight @Rabain and put it up with credit to you.
Furthurmore I've got a lot of old Bioware wallpapers which need 0 restoration and I will put them up soon.
@Ward I just made scan the Eldoth portrait. So far as the Minsc portrait scan concerned, there is only his half head, unfortunately Moreover, He seems has the same appearance as his counterpart in game.
I have much tedious work to do, but in a few days I'll have lots of stuff up here for your to gaze your eyes upon. Unfortunately, real life prevents me from updating this thread for a bit.
Be back in a couple days, don't worry, there is a lot on the horizon friends.
I've got some concept art, bits and pieces from some CE edition CD's but I ... um ... don't know how to attach them to a post. I've been looking for the answers on this site for a while too. It's kind of late over here.
Ok, I hope that worked - I'm not familiar with Image Shack, but appreciate being pointed there (it's sure to come in handy). Please let me know if anything is wrong, hope they are of use. The item history pages are interesting (they were identical on each CD) maybe somebody else would know if more pages were released?.
Thanks - though Bhaalspawn will do!. I don't think I resized them (not much of a techy) when I uploaded them to Imageshack they were defaulted at 800x600, I just tried another now (with the 'do not resize option') and it was the same size. Let me know if I'm missing anything. Also just managed to upload these Gifs if they are of any use:

I am almost certain the originals were much larger than these as well.

...aaand it's tiny. I specifically uploaded this by clicking on 'do not resize'. Further testing required. Original in 800 x 600.

When my internet works I'll put em' on. They need 0 work they're already HD.
You didn't resize them by any chance did you? I'm also worried about .JPG on the end, but there's no data corruption yet.
