I haven't used a stalker yet, couldn't it be a bit annoying...

Still debating on what class to play in BG2. I was debating about a Stalker since the class sounds interesting from a RP perspective (and I didn't use backstab much in bg1 but would like to use it more in bg2.)

I have a question though, wouldn't you need to also have to scout out first with a thief for traps before engaging? I would think it would be sort of annoying to have your thief out front looking for traps and then having to send him/her back after it's clear only to then send in the stalker? vs if you had a backstabbing thief on point you could just scout ahead for traps and then if you see someone to backstab you could just engage in that right from where you are?

I'm guessing this isn't an issue for the most part since you can typically travel with the group and the thief searching for traps and then when you get an "enemy sighted" you could just retreat if need be and then use the stalker after retreating. At least in BG1 there weren't typically too many traps you had to disarm while engaging the enemy at the same time (outside of Sarevok.)

Why not just continue whatever character you finished BG1 with?

Stalkers are fantastic bud. Probably my favorite class.

Good question. The one I finished with was a sorcerer... I know they are really powerful in bg2 so I'm sure at some point I'll go back to using him, but it sort of bothered me that for the majority of the fights I didn't do much. Sure the important battles I helped a lot, but I felt so situational and sort of jealous of my thief (Imoen) and my tank (Yeslick) and my ranged Coran (overall he pretty much dominated.. but yea I know archers are pretty boss in bg1)
I also have a F/T and Paladin at the start of chapter 5 in BG1.. I'm just anxious to start BG2 now.Considering I don't really use traps or backstab that much in BG1, I really wanted to give it a whirl in BG2. (Note, thanks for you help Gallowglass in my other post about BH proficiencies... appreciate it.)

if you really want to make good use of your stalker, make sure someone on your team is going to have improved invisibility, and have them cast it on your stalker, because once you get behind someone you will start doing backstab damage, and really start to wreck baddies, and then of coarse once you get to level 7 spells you will want to go with mass invisibility, not only is it a great defensive spell, but it affects your whole team ( just watch out for the baddies who are trying to use true seeing on you, if you see them about to cast it, go for them) the main point about have a stalker is the backstab damage, if you aren't going to be backstabbing, then in essence, you are just playing a watered down fighter, so if backstabbing isn't going to be your thing, then I would suggest just a normal ranger over a stalker ( if you are wanting to play a melee ranger) at least normal rangers can wear those heavier armors, which not only give great AC, but also give great armor modifiers ( plus the ranger stronghold is kind of fun to, so if you haven't done it yet, I say go for it )
