[BGII:EE] No movies/cutscenes

So I just installed BGII:EE on an old Dell Inspiron Laptop running XP to give to a friend so we can play (he doesn't have a device besides a phone to play the game on). I've tested it out and everything seems to work fine but none of the cutscenes play. It's as if they don't exist. The intro movies don't play for any of the campaigns and other movies like resting or day/night transitions don't function. I checked the movies list under the options menu and none are listed.
I've reinstalled the game (Steam version) to no avail. I also installed BG1:EE to check and on that one the movies play just fine. I found the movie files themselves in the BGII:EE folder so I have no idea what could be happening. Any suggestions?
