A better beginning for BG2!

I think it's essential that the beginning of BG2 EE be closely linked to BG1 EE's ending. Basically, I want to see not just Minsc, Jaheira and Imoen trapped together with you in the sewers. Who is trapped with you should depend on the party you had when you finished BG1 EE. Of course since the story of BG2 closely revolves around Imoen maybe that will cause problems and the story might have to be rewritten a little bit.
Well now that I think about it it does seem like a really daunting task to make the transition of BG1 to BG2 super smooth. But if it CAN be done then it would be a dream come true.

If Khalid isn't splayed out all open-chested and gross, Jaheira's character in BG2 is completely different. If Dynaheir hasn't already been killed by the start of BG2, Minsc is also very different.
This is to say nothing of the fact that Khalid and Dynaheir would then have to exist somewhere in the game, meaning that you'd have two extra NPCs in the game that exist solely for those players who didn't like them enough to use them in BG1.
You'd also have to account for everyone not being in their usual spots. Xzar and Montaron are together, meaning that Montaron hasn't been turned into a bird and Xzar isn't trying to free him. Edwin is with the protagonist, meaning that he isn't in bed with the Shadow Thieves. Viconia is with the protagonist, which means she isn't being burned at the stake by Beshaba's followers. Ajantis is with the protagonist and is therefore not one of the shapechanged paladins in Firkraag's domain. Quayle doesn't adopt Aerie because he's still with the party, which means that neither of them are at the circus and Aerie is probably just plain non-existent.
You're talking about some serious revisions to the plot--and those revisions themselves change based on who you import from BG1. In a lot of cases, it's an entirely new NPC (Alora, Skie, Safana, Coran, Garrick, Xan); in others, it's a broken plot.
What would make more sense is an "intermission story", one that separates you from your original party and reunites you with Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc, Dynaheir, and Imoen--just before you're ambushed in the road by bandits. Then you can just run a check to see if they were with you prior to that intermission, and the dialogue changes accordingly in that sequence.
And yes, it IS feasible. This is one of the best solutions.
