A better beginning for BG2!

I think it's essential that the beginning of BG2 EE be closely linked to BG1 EE's ending. Basically, I want to see not just Minsc, Jaheira and Imoen trapped together with you in the sewers. Who is trapped with you should depend on the party you had when you finished BG1 EE. Of course since the story of BG2 closely revolves around Imoen maybe that will cause problems and the story might have to be rewritten a little bit.
Well now that I think about it it does seem like a really daunting task to make the transition of BG1 to BG2 super smooth. But if it CAN be done then it would be a dream come true.

This has been requested before. What makes it unfeasible isn't Imoen--she's important enough that it wouldn't be much of a stretch to just put her in Irenicus's dungeon anyway, even if she's not in your party--but rather the Minsc and Dynaheir, Jaheira and Khalid moments.

If Khalid isn't splayed out all open-chested and gross, Jaheira's character in BG2 is completely different. If Dynaheir hasn't already been killed by the start of BG2, Minsc is also very different.

This is to say nothing of the fact that Khalid and Dynaheir would then have to exist somewhere in the game, meaning that you'd have two extra NPCs in the game that exist solely for those players who didn't like them enough to use them in BG1.

You'd also have to account for everyone not being in their usual spots. Xzar and Montaron are together, meaning that Montaron hasn't been turned into a bird and Xzar isn't trying to free him. Edwin is with the protagonist, meaning that he isn't in bed with the Shadow Thieves. Viconia is with the protagonist, which means she isn't being burned at the stake by Beshaba's followers. Ajantis is with the protagonist and is therefore not one of the shapechanged paladins in Firkraag's domain. Quayle doesn't adopt Aerie because he's still with the party, which means that neither of them are at the circus and Aerie is probably just plain non-existent.

You're talking about some serious revisions to the plot--and those revisions themselves change based on who you import from BG1. In a lot of cases, it's an entirely new NPC (Alora, Skie, Safana, Coran, Garrick, Xan); in others, it's a broken plot.

What would make more sense is an "intermission story", one that separates you from your original party and reunites you with Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc, Dynaheir, and Imoen--just before you're ambushed in the road by bandits. Then you can just run a check to see if they were with you prior to that intermission, and the dialogue changes accordingly in that sequence.

More importantly Beamdog just can't do it. They're contractually obliged not to alter original content. The best you can hope for like @Aosaw said is an intermission story which explains the break up of whatever part you were in and how you ended up in Irenicus dungeon (which reminds me. I've been meaning to start a thread about just such a thing stating what I'd like to see in such a mission).

I'm sure some storyline can be inserted to explain why only those NPCs are with you, perhaps Irenicus made an effort to round up several of your previous companions in the process of finding Charname which explains why NPCs you didn't use can be found in the dungeon (chances are you spoke with all of them). Others of your party perhaps escaped and being mindless NPCs went on their way thinking you were dead etc...

Jaheira does make specific mention of where you all were when you were captured. So any intermission would have to include Jaheira and Khalid coming to your aid or somehow being present with you at the time of the ambush. Probably Minsc and Dynaheir as well, because there's otherwise no reason for Jaheira to know who he is.

It's been asked over and over (and over) again. Beamdog would be crazy not to do this.

    And yes, it IS feasible.

This is one of the best solutions.

I'm sure someone creative can come up with something better, that was an off the cuff thought from me. And the good thing is that this prequel of sorts would be new additional content so hopefully would fall outside the 'no changes to the core content' clause in the contract.

Might I suggest visiting the following thread to collect votes, expand the ideas, and prevent duplicate FRs at the same time?

Like story show on Baldr's Gate Trilogy mod, Mavera kidnap hero and team for Irenicus. This explanation makes sense to me is simple enough.
