icewind dale enhanced edition: character weapons

Hi ! I play Icewind dale enhanced edition and i tweaked my mage in EE Keeper so he can use the spear. I saved the game but everytime i try to equip him with the spear it say: Cannot use item. in the box under quick weapons and quick items. Have i done something wrong ? Every other change i made seem to work.

I believe its because the game is coded so that mages cannot use spears, regardless if you give them proficiency or not, the only way your mage is going to be using a spear is if he has a fighter level in there somewhere or if your force it into place with EE keeper, but note that if you have items forceably equipped and go to level up, they will come off and you will have to EE keeper them back on, if you are just using a normal mage then what you might want to do is be a level 2 fighter than dual over to mage, that way you will be able to use any weapon in the game ( you will have to be human to dual class) or you can use EE keeper to force a dual class for a race other than human

but basically the skinny is; unless you have a fighter level in there somewhere, the weapon will always be tainted red and you will not be able to use it

You could use Near Infinity to edit the spear your character is using to make it usable by mages. You'll have to do it again, every time your mage gets a new spear, but he'll probably only use 3 or 4 different spears throughout the game, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Just uncheck mage, save it to override and you're good to go.

Or you can use dltcep to edit the item, spear, to be usable by mages. In dltcep you need to check the box near mage. Push ITEMS tab from the edit section, find the spear you want to edit, and under usability tab check any class you want it to be equipped with.

Here I made the spear usable by all classes, and alignments, except monk. Monks lack two handed weapon animations as they use kicks, so it is not advisable to equip them with two handers.

Gaining proficiency is a bit tricky, you can give proficiency via shadowkeeper, but for your mage to gain proficiency naturally upon level up, you need to also edit 2da file weapoprof.2da via dltcep, and check for mage column to enable natural proficiency in spears or whatever weapon you choose.
