More Imoen

Imoen was underrepresented in the first game (banter etc.) since the character was a late addition to the game. Hope this will be changed in EE. Imoen is literally my favourite fictional rpg character (mostly due to the awesome Romance mod for BG2 - check it out!), and features prominently in my fan fiction writing, so all new "canonical" content would be awesome!

of course I don't expect a romance option in EE, but a friendship path or at least some new Im-banter with the party members would be great

I agree, but apparently they have contractual restrictions that limit what they can do with the existing characters. That's why the new content is mostly centered on the three new characters.

According to the AMA, the contract is not keeping them from adding stuff like banters. (they even wanted to include the NPC mod, but couldn't get the permission of the authors)
It's just that they didn't have the time to write all the dialogues.

Fellow lover of Imoen, it is good that you have written about her. Perhaps make a new Imoen banter mod for the game, eh?

My understanding is that they can only add banter between old characters and new characters, not between old characters. I want to see more content from her too, but that will only happen if she's really REALLY talkative towards these new NPCs.

In the AMA, someone answered that they are not limited to just interactions between and with the new npcs, but simply didn't have the time to write all those dialogues between the existing npcs.

@bikertiax I could do something like that if somebody would code it for me. but it's not a high priority at this moment

1.Will BGEE feature new spells, cantrips and/or kit-restricted equipment for mages? 2. Will new NPC be involved in BG2-style banters? If so, what about "old" BG1 NPCs? 3. Would you like or can you make an CRPG, where you let the player be villain of the story, or let him side with main villain in the beginning of the game?

    [–]DaigleDopple

1 - I believe there's a couple new spells or abilities. Cantrips are still out, because it's hard to find a way to make them useful without being overpowered.

2 - New NPCs get banter ala BG2, old NPCs will have new text-only banter with the new NPCs. The old NPCs will not have any new banter that I know of, because we were unable to obtain permission to include the banter packs that fans have made and didn't have time to write our own.

    :)

I was basing my understanding of their limitations from what i read in the 'list of things that cant be done' topic of discussion.
Does anyone have much of an understanding about the expansion mods for BG1 that may have updated her content? Mods like that will probably be some of the earliest to see a compatibility to BG:EE update.

the npc mod adds some nice Immy dialogues that should have been canon all along. e.g. comments on Gorion's death. npc mod is really indispensable but I'd really like an expansion of that content

the above was written with Sept. release date, now the devs have some more time though...? also I can't see why they wouldn't get the npc project developers to grant permisson. what could be better than having your own writing be canon?!

seems I can't edit my posts...

I forgot to add that like I mentioned above the BG2 Imoen romance mod is insanely good, it was literally what made me interested in writing myself

Well they probably have had such restrictions on modifying old content for the same reason that people on this forum have expressed concern about changing old characters: they dont want it to go badly.

Despite its shortcomings, I think it had alot going for it in terms of what it added. It tried to fill the void of her lengthy absence from the party with dream sequences, expanded on her backstory and addressed some of the holes in her past (namely, the years before she arrived at CandleKeep) and added a friendship between her and Aerie. Its revival by TCDale sounds promising.

I think because the maker of this mod has vanished and no way to contact him/her.

huh? I just mentioned the romance mod for BG2 because it's so awesome, we're talking about 1 here. ;-)

the npc project people should still be around and contactable

@crazedslayer in the romance mod the years before Candlekeep definitely aren't mentioned, I literally explored every branch in the conversations. probably you're thinking of the friendship mod? I've not played that one yet...
  • CrazedSlayerCrazedSlayer Member Posts: 131
@LMTR14 No, theres definitely a scene in there where you ask her about whether she remembers things before she was 10 years old, and she gets really panicked and mad because she cant for some reason. You dont actually see anything, its all talked about and was probably planned to be elaborated on more in ToB.
  • LMTR14LMTR14 Member Posts: 165
yes. but that's not technically revealing anything that happened before Candlekeep. on a side note, I came up with pretty extensive ideas for my own fan fiction because of this very memory gap. (I've yet to write it down though :-( not in a state of mind fit for writing anymore it seems, sadly)

there was a beta for the ToB part but I never got hold of it, you're probably right in that there would have been more revelations about the past

I assume you've tried the Imoen banter pack too. It's pretty awesome. When it comes to banter, no one is better than Imoen.

which one, the npc project one for bg1? yes, like I said there's some very good content in there. love Imoen giving you a "birthday" present...

  • SilenceSilence Member Posts: 437
Man her birthday present was pretty awesome too.
Yeah I think that's the package. It also made Kivan and Jaheria much more interesting too. Kivan was very underdeveloped in the first game...he was basically a Clint Eastwood impression.

If you mean the Imoen Romance mod by Lord Mirrabbo then I have good news for you. See here http://www.blindmonkey.org/imoen/ . To say I LOVED this mod is a serious understatement. The quality of the writing was just...fabulous beyond measure.
