Right, he was only 8 years old. And I think the story basically says he was able to stealth primarily because he was small and went unnoticed as a child. By the time he's a grown man, without continued practice of the pickpocketing skill he wouldn't necessarily still have it. Notwithstanding that the rules disallow dualing from Thief to Monk. ;)

Monks have stealth in BG2 so he ought to have that. Pickpocketing, probably not, and would seem a bit odd for a Lawful character to keep his practice up.

Ah, right, sorry, been a long time since I played.

Pickpocketing could be used for Good ends (eg, against evil targets to complete a Good-aligned quest). But it opens the door for a player to exploit the skill for bad purposes, and that sure enough wouldn't jibe with a LG alignment.

I finally had the time to read Rasaad's story, wow good job @Dave, it seems that you guys are going to make the new NPCs really deep and three-dimensional :) !

Rasaad is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. I always wanted a monk in my party! Keep up the good work!

I never wanted a monk in my party, but after reading this, maybe I'll reconsider.

This is very nice, love the backstory. I can't say I'm absolutely sold on the accent - sounds borderline irish on some of his vowels.

    Brace yourselves.

Pretty-boy portraits for Rasaad are coming! ^_^ @LadyRhian I summon thee!

@Zinodin You called? "I can call spirits from the Vasty Deep!" "Well, so can I, but do they come when you call them?" ;)

Oh, Shakespeare! I didn't know I was literally summoning a "sexy devil" ^^ Huh, you learn something new every day..

Anyway, the girls are going to need hot male monk-portraits for their their new love interest, Rasaad.

Will they have your assistance in the upcoming months!?

Well, so this is the bread throw to the rabble to calm the tempers? Team BG could have worked on a better decoy, just saying.

Ps: Don't take me wrong people, the history is cool.

I am very interested in this, particulary because I think Monk was the only class you didn't get as a companion.

You didn't get a sorcerer or a barbarian either.

Very impressed with the quality of the voicing, something I always thought lacked in the npc mods excellent npc mods made over the years.

Oh yea, and the story is compelling too, characters you want to learn more about are characters well made :)

Impressive work, both on the story and the voice. Can't wait to explore this character and his story in-game.

If anybody is interested I finished a Russian translation of Rasaad's short story. You can find it in this thread: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/4872/v-detalyah-rasaad-in-bashir.

Also I have a question. I belive somebody mentioned a new digital manual for the game. I wonder if Rasaad's, Dorn's and Neera's short stories will be included in it?

I have a question about Rasaad yn Bashir, what is name mean?

    Is it arabic?
  • DjimmyDjimmy Member Posts: 749
I don't like his voice. I mean what's with the accent. It doesn't just fit in.
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
Rasaad may be related to Rashad, which means "Wisdom, Right Guidance" and Bashir means "Bearer of good news". yn may be something like O or Ui in Gaelic. "Son of/Child of". So, it's probably something like "Wisdom, son of the bearer of Good news", which certainly fits for the character they have in mind.

The accent sounds vaguely Indian (as in India) to my ear as well. Sort of a meld of middle eastern and Indian... He drones a bit, i.e., voice isn't very animated, but that's undoubtedly in-character (do we really want a bubbly monk?). There's certainly a professional richness to the voice-acting. And there's a kind of intense determination and focus to the personality that comes through (expressed even more vividly in the portraits) in the tone even if the delivery is somewhat monotone.

I think I'm going to enjoy using this character. He'll take a lot of damage, probably. But just as long as he can dole it out as well, I expect he'll to be fun to have along. In my first game with him Viconia's going to be healing him, and it should be interesting to see how that develops.

he sounds nice to me, for now i like the story and the vibe. i hope there will be more animated-ness to him in the future. :)

Awesome job from mr. Meer voice acting Rasaad actually. Sounds very unique and different than "MaleShep" or the cowled dude at the end cinematic of SoA :)
