BG2 Multiplayer - Tips for getting it to work?

So with the delay, a friend and I have decided to attempt to get the multiplayer on BG2 to work. I've have always run into multiple problems doing so over the internet, and could never find any useful help online. So, using TCP/IP, what do I need to do on the host machine to get it to work?

What I know to do: Create exceptions on firewalls, open a port on the router.

What I dont know: What port to open, how to find the IP address to give to my friend to join.

We'll both have ToB installed and patched. Any help is appreciated.

If you could figure this out I am going through BG2 Soa/ToB again till the release. If you can get it to work let me know if you want another player.

So, I got it to work. Apparently since I tried last a program called GameRanger has made it -sooo- much easier to play. My friend and I got it working in under a half hour. On the off chance someone comes to this thread for help, things to look out for:

Make sure all players have the same version of the game: patches, expansions, and mods
I made an exception for BG2 in windows firewall, but didnt have to mess with my router, so yay.
    GameRanger download: http://www.gameranger.com/

    Hope this helps someone.

@Toxic Sorry, but we're not looking for other players, want to use the NPCs so my friend can get some of the banter he's been missing out on.

Game Ranger is and was always the solution, not just for BG games, but also for a few billion others. Congrats on getting it to work though! :)
