Denerim's Gate - Baldur's Gate in Dragon Age AU (Spoilers all over the place)

ButtercheeseButtercheese Member Posts: 3,766
I lately got back into Dragon Age and at one point I had this totaly brilliant idea.
What if Baldur's Gate took place in Thedas instead of at the Sword Coast ...?

Here are my thoughts and make sure to leave your own below, in the hopes that we can make it a nice and tight AU together! (Probably gonna adjust the startpost over time as this thread progresses.)

Please note that I am gonna have to change/ adjust certain things about the characters of course, especially the races, since there are no gnomes, halflings, orcs or drow in DA. And hybrids aren't really a thing, they are super rare, so I am gonna have to make some changes there too.

Locations/ Organizations/ Stuff

Baldur's Gate --> Denerim
Candlekeep --> Circle of Magi at Lake Calenhad
Neverwinter --> Val Royeux
Amn (with templars in charge instead of mages) --> Kirkwall
Zentarim & Thay (we are gonna merge them for this) --> Tevinter
Harpers --> Grey Wardens
Rashemen --> ???
Kara-Tur --> ???
Icewind Dale --> ??? (Maybe the Kocari Wilds)
Deepwater --> Nevarra
Tethyr --> Anitva
Calimshan --> ???
Beregost --> Redcliff
Nashkel --> Lothering
Flaming Fist --> Denerim city guard
The Bhaalspawn --> Have parts of the souls of one of the Old Gods inside them

Charname Origins

Gorion saved you as a baby from a cultist ritual that was suppossed to revive an Archdemon and cause the next Blight. The ritual wasn't completed but the Archdemon's soul was shattered into countless pieces that merged with the souls of children all across Thedas. Gorion was instructed by the Wardens to bring you to the Circle of Magi at Lake Calenhad where he'd live undercover and make sure you are safe and under constant supervision. Only few others at the circle know about the soulfragment and Gorion's Grey Warden connection, yourself not included.

Templar squire: Human fighter & human rogue
Circle mage: All mages
Arcanist: Dwarven rogue
Stable boy/ girl: All rogues & all fighters

Characters

Ajantis Ilvastar: A templar who hails from a noble family in Nevarra. Maybe a Pethagast?
Alora: A surface dwarf from Denerim.
Branwen: Maybe an Avaar or Chasind witch?
Coran: Fereldan city elf
Dynaheir: ???
Edwin Odesseiron: Tevinter Magister of course
Eldoth Kron: Fereldan bard
Faldorn: Maybe a witch of the wilds?
Garrick: Bard from Redcliff
Imoen: Circle Mage
Jaheira: Elven Grey Warden from Antiva. Knight Enchanter class.
Kagain: Surface Dwarf mercenary
Khalid: Elven Grey Warden from Antiva.
Kivan: Dalish elf
Minsc: ???
Montaron: Surface dwarf from Tevinter
Quayle: This one is tricky. I should be a mage but dwarves can't be mages. So I'd make him an arcanist/ alchimist type.
Safana: Fereldan
Shar-Teel Dosan: Originally from Denerim
Skie Silvershield: Denerim noble
Tiax: A dwarven cultist who got kicked out of Orzammar.
Viconia DeVir: Tricky. Some very foreign elf, no idea from where though. Maybe a type of elven darkspawn who escaped her kin?
Xan: Dalish knight enchanter
Xzar: Low ranked Tevinter mage
Yeslik Orothair: I am not sure if priests Orzammar are allowed to be fighters, so I'd just make him a regular dwarf warrior who happens to be super religious.

Aerie: An Andrastian elven mage and former slave from Tevinter who was freed by Quayle.
Haer'Dalis: _Maybe_ and elven abomination ...? Don't know where he's originally from though. Maybe Val Royeux?
Jan Jansen: Surface Dwarf from Kirkwall
Keldorn Firecam: Kirkwall templar
Korgan Bloodaxe: Surface dwarf mercanary, probably originally from Orzammar.
Mazzy Fentan: Surface dwarf who wants to join the templars in Kirkwall.
Nalia deArnise: Fereldan noble (maybe from Highever?)
Valygar Corthala: Former Tevinter, now lives undercover in the Free Marches.
Yoshimo: Yeah ...

Baeloth Barrityl: Elven circle mage from Val Royeux and player of the game (like Vivienne in DAI). Or maybe like Viconia a type of Darkspawn.
Dorn Il-Khan: A Tal-Vashoth who is in a bloodpact with an ancient demon (pride demon?)
Hexxat: A type of revenant? No idea where she's from :I
Neera: Elven circle mage who ran away because after an accident she was suppossed to be made tranquil. Now the templars hunt her down. OR an elven slave who fled Tevinter.
Rasaad yn Bashir: No idea, because there are no kung fu monks in Thedas as far as I know o.o
Wilson: Wilson

Amelyssan: One of the cultists who tried to revive the Archdemon.
Bodhi: A banished Sentinel Elf rogue turned revenant.
Gorion: Undercover Grey Warden and a high ranking wizard at the Circle of Magi at Lake Calenhad
Irenicus: A Sentinel Elf who was banished from the temple because he tried to drink the Well of Sorrows and overthrow the temple.
Sarevok Anchev: Denerim noble

    It'd be a different story, that is for sure.

    What I'd probably do is have Charname be the child of Morrigan (ie: her child will have the soul of an old god). Sarevok and Imoen would be your twin brother and sister. Gorion takes you and Imoen in, as you say, to the Circle of Magi. Sarevok is raised in Denerim, the adopted child of a powerful merchant (Iron Throne). Sarevok learns of his blood, and is convinced that he needs to kill his siblings if he is to have the entire soul of the Old God.

    BG2 I'd replace Irenicus with the Architect. No need to keep him being an elf, given how every elf in Thedas has already lost what it means to be elven and taking in the soul of an Old God wouldn't do shyt about that. The Architect though would be far more likely to want to experiment on a human with the soul of an Old God, given what he is all about.

    ToB would be Charname and Imoen going down into the deep roads, goaded on by Mellisan, to hunt down the remaining Old Gods. This would go along with the Highlander-esque 'there can only be one' thing going on. She'd be a telivinter mage, perhaps the last high priestess of the old dragon cults of that land. So rather than wanting to be the god of murder, she'd want to have all of the old gods (and Charname/Imoen) killed, so she can take your soul and take over the darkspawn herself. A crazy plan to match Millisan's.

    It doesn't work quite as well as the BG story, but that is the best I could come up with using your framework.

    Very interesting idea :O
    Poor Morrigan though for having to deliver triplets Oo
    Also, how would that work? Charname would have to be human in that case and Sarevok and Imoen don't even look remotely alike :/

    A different idea:
    Charname is the only OGB. Imoen, as an apprentice mage, somehow connected to Charname in a different way, through her magical powers. Maybe she once experimented in secrecy with blood magic and bound their spirits together? And Sarevok would need a different motivation in this case ...
