Dorn's romance [spoiler]

sansserifsansserif Member Posts: 125
Hi, pursued a romance with Dorn in SoA but when it came to ToB, I don't get any romance talks and Dorn addresses the PC as "Friend" on various occasions and after completing the Lunia quest.

Did I mess it up by saying something wrong?
Attached a screenshot of my EEKeeper saved game with romance variables, don't know how these work.

Hi :) I've never played Dorn's romance, but according to the variables, it all seems to go fine; at least, that's how it works with the other romances. You see, the variable *NPCname*ROMANCEACTIVE is what points out the status of the romance, so depending on that, the numeric value changes; 1 is progressing, 2 is an established relationship and 3 means the romance is broken for good (unless you tweak the game, at least xD); in your game, the variable says the romance is active and that you're in a relationship with him, also, the variable named DORNROMANCETALK it's on 3, so it means you only got one lovetalk so far, if I'm not mistaken; that one adds 2 points after one lovetalk (after the first one the value is 3, then 5 and so on), so maybe it's just a matter of the timer; try waiting a little longer or to change zones, given that some npcs don't romance on certain areas. If that still doesn't work, you can always change the DORNROMANCETALK's value to 5. Maybe the next talk needs an special event to trigger, most likely, after Saradush (all romances have one talk after that event), so perhaps is that. Try and see, you know if that doesn't work, then you can edit the variables xD

    Hi Isabella,
    Thanks for your reply XD
Maybe Dorn's post-ToB lovetalk is just underdeveloped (?) , I'm already past Balthazar's monastery and about to commence the final showdown
Ok, will try that later and see, if not, maybe it's just Dorn's script is meant to call you "friend" after you complete the Lunia quest...
How i wish ToB was longer though, completed the game (up to this stage) in just 3weeks..compared to months in my first BG2 run.. but that was 8 years ago ^^

    [update]
@IsabellaGranger somehow before i left for the final battle with Melissan, the last lovetalk triggered (lovetalk variable is now at 5). But I don't like the epilogues for Dorn..
it seems that either he gets hunted (if you become a god) or you kill him due to your relationship clashing and then his wanted status (due to being a mortal yourself, you probably don't have a better solution).. Do u know the possible ending spoiler if you don't romance him? Or he'll still die a **hero** and have tales told of him blabla... Similarly, Viconia doesnt have a happy ending, I guess, from my memory (read in walkthroughs and saw on YouTube videos)... Quite saddening for both...Anyway I wonder how would my half-elf protagonist have a child with a half-orc...

I believe the script works like that in many cases. Ex, I've done Anomen's romance twice (CN and LG path), and sometimes, when doing different missions, no matter if he's your official lover, he calls you ''friend'', because the quest has nothing to do with the romance, and it's the same reaction he's written to have, in case you're merely his friend.
Oh gods, then it must be bugged, or something? He nearly didn't talk at all in ToB? .-. Maybe you could load an old save and tweak it a little with EEKeeper to change the variables and such, and see if the dialogues trigger, because it seems pretty weird that they didn't appear at all .-. But wait, it's even more weird that the lovetalk says 5, now... does he have merely 3 lovetalks? I didn't do his romance in ToB, but is that way? EE Romances don't romance in ToB? xD Gods! xD I should try this. Maybe I'll edit a game of mine to have a romance with Dorn (I'll have to dump poor Anomen, but he'll understand xD), and see it for myself if he does romance... It seems weird to me.
As for the other, it might be due to your alignment. Dorn is evil, so probably, if you're good, your relationship with him isn't going to last forever. It makes sense, but if you're evil, I don't know. Otherwise, they just didn't want your CHARNAME to have a happy ending xD
More so if your protagonist were a gnome, or a halfling... All races can romance the EE npcs, so go figure! xD

I did Anomen's romance in my first playthrough (8 years ago) in vanilla BG2. I think ToB doesn't really have much lovetalks compared to SoA, and anyway v2 (beta) has some fixes for Dorn as well. (Yeah, maybe it was a bug as beta got a new update recently - about somewhat 5 days ago or so, perhaps it fixed those?)

Well, my PC is a CN elf, neither evil nor good. ^^ On the epilogues though, yeah maybe they didn't want CHARNAME to have a happy ending either.. well that is if CHARNAME is a female.
Rasaad doesn't have a good ending either, despite romancing him or not.

I actually wanted endings like those for the IWD2NPCs Mod in IWD2.. mine was a drow romancing a drow.. but that's a different case because your characters are not Bhaalspawns. Omg, it sounds more like a curse... -_-

Plus, I also find it funny: people installing Sarevok and Imoen romance mods.. it feels like... -_-
