Cloak of Protection vs Ring of Princes?

The Cloak of Protection and the Ring of Princes serve identical functions in different item slots. Which items are particularly compatible which the Cloak in contrast to the Ring and vice versa for each respective class (Fighter, Mage, Thief, Cleric)?Among the two which is the generally better item in terms of compatibility?

I've found for the protagonist (you). Use the ring of protection over the cloak. You will end up abandoning both for the utility of both cloak and ring depending on classes chosen, but for starting out, use the ring. It also grants saving throw bonus while most cloaks you get early on will give you immunities and better bonuses to specific things. Trade out the rings later on for class specific.

For your group members, depends if they are up front like Jahira minsc valygar keldoran viaconia ect... Give those whichever best lowers their ac since they are front line or if they are back of house like Edwin Nalia yoshi ect give them the boost items. (Wizardry rings charms control ect) and don't worry about their ac as much since they will splat unless you buff them alot, at which point neither will help them much.

To clarify, the cloaks in SoA are more geared to immunity and resistant, the rings are more geared to ac. Hence. Use the RoP not the CoP

There's several rings with specific benefits to particular classes (spell bonuses, thieving bonuses, etc.), as well as some cloaks that work particularly well with certain roles. Try to think about what you have, and how to make the best use of it - that should cut down your options to manageable levels so you can puzzle out the configuration that gives the maximum overall benefit.

I look at the ring/cloak issue like this: You have two fingers (albeit rather than the usual ten) but only one pair of shoulders, so the ring is the obvious choice as you can wear two at once.
