The In-game Log

So I updated to 2.0 and for the most part I like the changes. The only thing that I can't figure out post-update is that the log on the Middle-bottom of the screen above the character skill/action bar... I have no clue on how to make the box bigger so I can actually see what is happening in Combat like Critical Hits or the occassional snippet of side conversation. Can I get some assistance with this small matter. In case I gave out bad wording on what I'm trying to expand, I included a link to a screenshot I made.

    Put your mouse on the upper frame and drag it upwards

    that does not seem very intuitive...was there any need to do away with the classic buttons ? also, what is it this weird white line where those buttons originally were ?
