How to mark a whole category or all threads in a category as read?

I've searched all over the forum for the answer, but I haven't found how to do it.

The Siege of Dragonspear category is very spammy, I would like to just read the threads I'm interested in and then mark the rest as read so that only threads with replies are highlighted the next time I return to the forum.

Is there a way to do it?

I've noticed in a few places a small grey "cog" thingo, but clicking on it doesn't do anything that I can see.

I'm on Windows 10, Chrome browser.
