[Mac] Consistent Desktop Crashes (BG:EE & BG:SoD)

Whenever I try to start a new game in BG:EE (either through the stand-alone copy that I bought or through BG:SoD), the game gets just far enough after character creation to display the backdrop for the Prologue / Chapter One dialogue (Candlekeep at night) before crashing directly to Desktop. No matter the character design, details, or so-on, this happens 100% of the time for me.

Likewise, while I can start a new game in BG:SoD without issue, the moment I attempt to save the game in any fashion causes the launcher to crash and - similar to the above - boots me back to the desktop 100% of the time.

My computer is well beyond the required System Memory (many GB remaining), OpenGL Compatibility (Intel HD 4000 384MB, which can run ), and Processor Speed (2.3 GHz), so I can safely rule those three out. I do not have any mods installed, and thus can similarly rule that possibility out as well. Any clues as to what might be causing this error, as - while I do still have a Windows 7 partition I can attempt to install the game on - it is not reassuring to think there might be a hardware failing / complication occurring when the machine's working in its default / optimal OS.

Update: Downloading BG:SoD to my Windows 7 Partition lets the game run fine and smoothly. Thus, the issue I'm facing is definitely not one of hardware (or at least not hardware limitations) and must be software-related.

I'm having the same problem. BGI and BGII both immediately crash to the desktop just after character creation. 1.3 had no problems on my late 2011 Macbook Pro (8GB RAM Intel HD 3000 w/512MB graphics). This happens in both 10.9.5 and 10.11.4.

Seriously Beamdog, the game is completely unplayable on 10.11. Pressing venture forth after character creation crashes to desktop overtime, even with ambient sounds turned off. I have been playing video games for a long time and this is the worst experience I have ever had with unmodified SW not working on a machine far in excess of game specs. Fix this.

For those having this problem: While troubleshooting I tried creating a new user on my Mac, logged in and ran the program. It seems to be working in the new account.

I had removed ALL BG program, save, and config files and folders from my main account (from Document and Library/Containers) and my laptop config is pretty generic so I have no idea what could be triggering the problem.

You can try this and see what happens.

    It's linked to this bug:

What I did was look in my Documents folder. I found a symlink/shortcut called "Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition" but it didn't go anywhere. So I deleted it, fired up the game and it worked for me.

Another work around I found is creating a new character through the tutorial and exporting it during that time. When starting a new game, import the character and it doesn't crash when I click "Venture Forth".

The real issue (I think) is that before BG:EE _was_ sandboxed. While now it simply isn't.

This doesn't happen to everyone, but we are seeing some strange issues with the save game folder that we're having trouble reproducing. As was noted above the solution is to either:
    • Delete / Rename the BG:EE folder from Documents
    • Create an empty "Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition" folder in Documents
