Fighter/Mage/Cleric Tips?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I was considering rolling a Half-Elf F/M/C, but am wondering about playstyle. Do most people play it as a melee character with Cleric/Mage buffs, or do they act more as a Cleric/Mage with better combat ability? What are the bread and butter spells? For Cleric, I was thinking DUHM, Righteous Magic, and Champion's Strength. I suppose the Mage would bring Stoneskin, Shield, Mirror Image, Blur, Haste, and various defensive spells. Any tips would be appreciated.

    Pretty much what you said. It's a clobbering buff machine, for the most part. That's why you pick fighter, right? So you can hit things over the head. Mage and Cleric just help you hit them harder.
