[Windows] Crashes consistently at Candlekeep (2.0 with Dragonspear)

I have happily came running back for another playthrough, previously completed the game with no issues before SoD and now I can barely make it through Candlekeep without crashing.
So far I have crashed once at the party tutorial area to the south of Candlekeep, and twice I've locked up and crashed at the fight test outside the storeroom with the rats.
I have attempted to use the alternate renderer but that has not changed anything. I set up a character just before SoD and 2.0 arrived and I had Candlekeep done, but now I can barely play the game.
Please help if you can!
Edit: Forgot to mention I am on Windows 7.
