Chapter 1 Quests and such

So, still continuing on my noobish journey and I just made it to Nashkel, killed off the assassin and all the other stuff before remembering that I just watched a Nashkel introduction thing. Since I rushed to Nashkel because Jaheira was all antsy about going, I didn't do some of the quests that I wanted to do since I know that I can lose party members for moving slowly. Now that I talked to the mayor, am I able to go back and do the Chapter 1 quests or am I locked out of them?

    You're generally able to do quests whenever. Jaheira and Khalid don't leave if you don't go to the mine quickly she just complains a lot. If you recruit Minsc you need to do his quest quickly.

    Oh ok, I'm actually pretty happy then. I know that Xzar and Montaron leave if you don't walk into Nashkel, so I avoided recruiting them, and decided to go off and started wondering around (hence how I found Neera and Viconia). I just didn't want a case of losing Jaheira yet since she is my only level 2 character at the moment, and these ogre guys to the north are a tad scary to me.

    Actually talking to the mayor is the completion of Jaheira and Khalid's quest. They'll hang around forever now.

    Yeah theres usually enough time to do minsks quest then go to the mines before anyone complains. If you picked up kivan before all this he leaves after like 20 days if you don't get to the bandit camp.
